ABOUT CHIMAYO PRESS
Our primary audience remains newcomers to the United States – recent and not-so-recent immigrants – who may be studying at an American high school, adult school, community college, or university. The authors strongly believe that all immigrants deserve a quality education that allows them to express themselves, develop their English language skills, and deepen their critical thinking skills. From our perspective, too many language programs too often teach students to mostly listen and seldom speak – and often underestimate the academic and professional abilities of many American immigrants. Students should be able to not only listen and understand, but speak and be understood.
Therefore, Chimayo Press raises expectations for verbal skills by providing more authentic materials and topics to the intermediate and advanced English language classrooms – both in the United States and abroad. We also believe that holding meaningful conversations in English adds to the quality of life across globe. That’s why we deliberately choose to emphasize speaking skills and fluency in all of our books, especially in the Compelling Conversations series.
By promoting a more open, communicative approach to English language teaching, we hope to bring more people together, across the globe, in quality conversation. Ask more, know more share more – and create compelling conversations!

Our Namesake
Chimayo Press is named for our amazingly communicative, talented and loving first border collie. We met him soon after a visit to the inspirational New Mexico town.
That’s Chimayo’s image in our logo.

We launched in 2005 with one advanced level English as a Second Language (ESL) title – Compelling Conversations: Questions and Quotations on Timeless Topics – from authors Eric H. Roth and Toni Aberson. This fluency-focused textbook has blossomed into series meeting the varying needs of English language learners and their teachers in over 50 countries. The first specific version for a particular country, Vietnam, was published in 2011, followed by 2012's Compelling American Conversations. A title for Japanese learners, Compelling Conversations – Japan, was released in 2015, and a second edition of Compelling Conversations – Vietnam in 2016.
